Goin' to the chapel...

We're going to a wedding next weekend, and here's what we were told to wear. Uh, yeah, right.

While this is not a theme wedding, and costumes are not required, we would LOVE to see our fellow artists and creative family members embrace the steampunk style to help set the tone for this event. Let your children (and your inner children) go crazy! Steampunk is the combination of the best of Victorian England with technological advances that didn't actually take place until 100 years later. While it began as a literary movement, it has now expanded to included art, design and style. For more info visit these links:

You can also google image "steampunk costume" for clothing ideas. Think brass goggle wearing hackers, apocalyptic scavenger style of "Mad Max", vaudeville and burlesque in the structured gentility in the Victorian age...

First off, as soon as I saw "costumes" I was thinking "WTF?" JUST what I want to wear to a wedding. Even Jeff rolled his eyes and sounded grateful he had football practice and had to stay home for the weekend. At least Bob & I will get a nice weekend away together out of it. Here's where we're staying.

Weekend Plans?

I'm stoked. I found the missing $50 in Barnes & Noble giftcards I thought were gone forever. Any guesses as to what I'm doing this weekend? Heh.

Plus, I have $50 in Amex giftcards burning a hole in my pocket. Bob & I thought about going out for a nice dinner on it, but I'm leaning more toward buying this:

What are you guys doing this weekend? Planning on buying any books? Duh....

The Big Haircut!

Yesterday was the big day! We chopped out hair to donate to Locks of Love and Pantene's Beautiful Lengths. Pics are behind the cut!

My sister went first!

Then hubby's little sister!

And finally it was my turn!

And here we are!

Making the Kindest Cut of All...

Saturday is a monumental day.

I’m cutting off my hair.

“Eh, what’s the big deal?” you may ask. I’m not just cutting my hair. I’m cutting a LOT of it off.

Why? To give away to charity. My sister, my husband’s little sister, and I are chopping our hair off to give to two different places. My older sister and I are donating our hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign which makes wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer, and hubby’s 7-year-old sister will donate hers to the Locks Of Love campaign, which uses the donated hair to make wigs for disadvantaged children who’ve lost their hair from cancer and who can’t afford the high price of a wig. (See links to webpages for a much more elegant description of the good these groups do.)

I always have long hair, so this is a bit traumatic for me, lol. I’ll post some before and after pics from the day sometime Saturday night or Sunday.

Anyone have any stories of doing this, or knowing anyone who did? Or perhaps know of a woman or child who received one of these wigs?

Weekend Plans

Well, the weekend is here. This went by VERY fast... almost too fast for me.

  1. Work on finishing When Petals Fall to meet my self-imposed deadline.
  2. Watch the new Daughtry video on VH1. Info on that here.
  3. If I get done with edits early (pfft, yeah right!) then I'm going to read. Oh, how I miss reading. My TBR pile is HUGE and I can't wait to get started but only as a reward for finishing edits.

What are your plans? Anything fun? Share please, so I can live vicariously through your pleasure
