Jeff had a blast in DC. His plane left at 7am on Monday. What is it with the airline industry? When you have an unaccompanied minor, only one parent gets to go to the gate with them. What, is one parent a terrorist? Only you get to choose which one? So Bob & I had to choose who had to stay behind. Bob got to be the terrorist on Monday, and we decided I would be the terrorist when Jeff came home, so Bob could meet him at the gate.
Anyway, we finally broke down and bought Jeff a cell phone and gave it to him as an early BD present so he'd have it with him in DC. So as his plane was taxiing, we were already getting calls, LOL. Just cause he could. He was good and called at his layover and when he landed in DC. And when he got to his hotel. I cashed in some frequent flyer miles, and he got to fly 1st class. He was lovin' life.
The trip was a lot of work. I saw the workbook he brought home. He had leadership questions to answer every evening on the day's events. And they were graded, too, on a pass/fail basis, since he was getting high school social studies credit for this trip. Plus, he had discussion/participation grades as well. They had a community service project as well, so he got his 10 hours of community service hours done, which also counted for his National Junior Honor Society hours and his Life Scout requirements. So he killed 3 birds with one stone :) His roommates were from NJ and Tennessee. He came home with about 20 email addys and IM addys. (nobody gets snail mail addresses anymore - it's so passé!). So he met a bunch of great kids, learned a lot, saw a ton of great stuff (they made side trips to Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Gettysburg, too!), and had a fantastic time.
He came home on Sunday afternoon, and by Tuesday was feeling pretty run down. No surprise, given the hours he kept, the time difference, the jet lag, and the whole traveling thing. Wednesday he came home from school sounding like death. He had insisted on going because tryouts for the basketball team were on Wed. But by the time he came home, his temp was 102.5 and he was puking. By bedtime, it had made its way to his lungs and head, so he was wheezing and hocking (sorry for the gross factor, but most of you are moms out there...). That's the one thing I hate more than anything. Ick. SO he stayed home today. He's still sick, still running a 102 temp, and will be home tomorrow, too. Poor thing. Well, I guess Steve's next. Only then I have to stay home from work, too. (wait, that might be a good thing... hmmm......)

Oh, poor kid!{{Jeff}} But at least he got sick after he got home.
*reading over the course* You must be so proud of him!
Poor baby! At least he got to enjoy his trip and got sick at home where he can be babied by Mommy. :) I hope he'll get better soon.
And dang! He sure is a kid to be proud of, for sure! Yay!
Is that Jeff's pic on the cell phone? What a handsome young man! I think it's a miracle any more when you travel and get home without getting sick. Hope he's feeling better. Probably needs and wants lots of sleep more than anything else.
What a great kid you have though. You must be so proud.
Wow, Jeff packed a lot into his trip. Good for him! He probably burned the candle at both ends the whole time, so now his body is insisting on some down time. Hope he's better soon. Sounds pretty miserable. It's a good thing he's home where you can take care of him.
Thanks for the sympathy, all. And we are very proud of him. Of both our boys. They're great kids.
And Rosie, that's not Jeff. I looked for a blond kid, but couldn't find a good pic LOL. I didn't want to use his real picture.
What a lovely momma you are to cash in those miles and let him go first class.
Oh and I hate when they get sick! Sounds like he had a fabulous time though.
I hope he's feeling better soon!
Sounds like he had a fabulous time! I'm sorry he's not feeling well - poor guy. Hope he's better soon.
