Isn't It Funny...

No, it's really not. My kids listen to rap music... they like the beat and blah, blah. What I've found since I've listened in the car with them is that the MAJORITY of all rap songs contain three common words: bitch, mother f&*ker, and the "N" word. Is that like a rule or something? "You wanna sing a rap song? You gotta use one or more of these words here." What. The. F*&ck?

LOL. I hate crap, I mean rap for that very reason. How degrading...

I actually like some of it--please don't beat me--but after being trapped on vaca with the kids in control of the radio, I had to take it back on the way home and subject them to classic rock from Ennis to Arlington =)

I like some of it too Amy, what I don't like is the fact that the rappers feel compelled to put these words in the songs. It's just kinda tasteless... specially when they use the words repetitively. And the "N" word... aren't we supposed to be getting AWAY from racism? Seems to me that that would only inflame the issue.

I don't love any of those words, but there is so much that is denigrating and disrepectful to women in the lyrics and that's what bothers me.

My boys seem pretty much finished with their rap phase with a few exceptions. One is a metal head and the other likes jazz and blues. Yeah, they're freaks, but they're MY freaks.

Will Smith doesn't, but then he's seen as a sell-out by the number of great unwashed rappers out there. Numpties.

I like some of it too (mostly the beat, but some of the lyrics are fun. And some makes me cringe--which is probably why I don't listen to more of it. I tend to like the 'radio' (aka Walmart santized) version. *g*

My kid has also moved on musically, to a degree. He's hooked on Supernatural, so now he's heavily into discovering 70's Rock.

I Like Eminem , but I don't ever listen to any other rap.
My oldest son is only 8, and his fav singer is Tom Jones. Thats easy listening compared to some of the other stuff he could be into. He had a sleep over a while back and his friend brought some CD's that had parental advisory on them. Yikes.
